Academic Planner

As a homeschool mom, I was thrilled to be offered the chance to review this academic planner!
If you saw my desk you would know how unorganized I can be! This was a huge blessing to me and an encouragement to start being more aware of controlling the chaos.

I love how the planner is set up. There is a place to write in your subjects for the semester and then each week  has a page to write in the work for the week. There is a section also at the bottom where you can write in after school activities, extra classes or whatever notes you need. Here is our planner. Obviously this week is empty due to Thanksgiving week. We plan to write in what actually gets accomplished…if anything.  Normally the page is full of instruction and activity.

What I especially enjoy is how easy it is for the student to follow and  use independently. For example, what I do at the beginning of the week is write in what needs to be done on each day. There is a small square in each of the larger squares where the student can check it off when it's done. This allows the student to work on their own, and allows mom not to have to keep asking if the work is getting done. It's working great for us!

Healing Grace by Beth Shriver

Healing Grace is book 3 in the Touch of grace series by Beth Shriver. In this book, we are taken on a journey of finding out whether or not love can overcome differences.

Abby is an Englisher who has a hard family life. It's been just her and her Dad since her mom died. Her dad is a rough man who isn't very good at healthy communication with Abby. Abby loves her horse and taking care of her.  In an accident involving her horse, Abby meets Mose.

Mose is an Amish man strong in his faith. He cares for horses and is the one Abby comes to when her horse isn't healing. They begin a friendship when Mose agrees to keep her horse and care for her.
Due to some difficult circumstances, Abby finds herself with no place to live. Mose brings her home to stay with his family. Although Abby and Mose have huge differences to work through, they find themselves drawn to each other. Abby feels secure in the Amish community although she isn't secure in her faith like the Amish are. What they must discover is where life is taking them, and if they have a chance to live life together.

I thought this was an amazing story. In most Amish books you don't find this kind of relationship encouraged, so it was interesting to see. It's a great example of how differences can actually help bring people to a common life, and showing that by communication and shared interests you can mold lives to bring change in the differences.

I loved the development of the characters. I felt there was great depth to each one and made me feel invested in their story. The storyline of acknowledging differences and being considerate of those differences made for a realistic look into their lives and those around them.

I would definitely recommend this book and I'm sure will be reading it again! You can find a copy for yourself at amazon.com

CasePics I Phone cases

CasePics is a family run business offering new and creative ways to dress up your IPhone case.  By allowing you to choose the picture you want on your case, it gives not only individuals a way to show off a hobby or their family, but also businesses a way to advertise.  When ordering your case, their website is easy to follow and works great. There are no hard steps to figure out. It's easy to manage.   Each phone image is put onto a white metal plate with high quality heat transfer inks. The picture appears in a very clear and shiny picture. I was amazed how well it looked. From what I experienced, the customer service is courteous and friendly. The product arrived in a quick manner and in good condition. The only thing I would say is I wish it had come with more padding. I would hate to think there was any chance of scratching the picture.

My son is the one who has the IPhone, and he is thrilled with it. He picked the picture for his phone. He loves the Rockin Rollercoaster at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios. He thought it would be a great way to show his favorite ride to everyone. He said that it was tight getting it on to his phone, but after it's on the tight fit is perfect. He said it was great because unlike some cases, all the buttons on the phone are accessible with no plastic covering them with "fake"buttons.

I am very happy with www.CasePics.com and will definitely use them in the future for any new cases we might get. The company works will all IPhone Cases 5/4S/4, IPad 2 and 3 mini cases, and Samsung galaxy S3 cases.

Liven it up with Easy Canvas Prints!

I was honored with the opportunity to do a review through Easy Canvas Prints. I love to display pictures throughout our home of special places we've been. For the most part, all our artwork comes from my husbands photography.

The picture I chose for my review is one that was taken at our pool when we first moved to Florida. I love this picture and the canvas was amazing at bringing out the colors. The way the canvas wraps the picture around the sides allows the viewer to see the life in the picture.

The canvas is well built and sturdy. It arrived carefully packed in material preventing damage to the canvas.  You can see how it's attached from the picture of the back.
I recommend checking out Easy Canvas Prints for your next canvas. You can help showcase artwork with these beautiful canvases.  Their website is professional quality and instructions for creating your canvases are easy to follow. Time to go create!

Disclosure: I received a free 16x20 canvas print in exchange for this review. My opinions are my own and my reviews are always honest.

The Christian Parenting Handbook Review and Giveaway!

I was very thankful to receive the opportunity to review and help promote the new book "The Christian Parenting Handbook". Over the years I have read many parenting books. What I love about this book is how different the approach is and the real life practical advice.
The initial layout of the book is a unique and intriguing way to pull someone's attention. Each chapter has a title specific to a question and helping you search for the answers. It make you feel as if you must read it.
I really love that this book leaves the general approach of the behavior and appearance of parenting as a formula, the do it "this way" and all will be fine. What we learn in this book is that  each child is a unique and individual person, and the same canned parenting isn't going to work for every child. Much to a parent's dismay, not even every child in the same family will need the same parenting. We are shown that parenting ideas are based on God's Word not just tradition. This book does a wonderful job of reinforcing this belief.

This book gives specific ways to form your  own plan and philosophy of parenting. Each chapter helps with the "how" part of parenting, not just the "do this". There are Bible verses throughout the book which are specific reminders of how God sees our parenting responsibility and privileges. We see encouragement throughout which is very important on the hard parenting days! We are challenged throughout the book to not only grow as parents, but also as Christians. There are some wonderful examples and situations that any parent can relate to in some way.
Each example of an idea teaches us the internal motivation for parenting and the child's behavior. We find that our heart has great effects on our learning and the goal of parenting is not the short term obedience but the heart of the child. When we reach the overall heart attitude, we can find the solution to last a lifetime.
As parents we want our children to learn responsibility, and this book clearly teaches that. This book is high on my list of favorite parenting books. I wish it had been around when my son was younger. I picked out things while reading that I would have done differently. I'm thankful though that in this book we learn it's never too late. There is something to learn and apply to any age.
This would be a terrific gift for new parents who are looking to start this journey with a very Biblical approach.
