An Early Childhood and Special Needs Initiative to help children:

1. Reduce risk factors for disease, disabilities, disorders and disadvantages 2. Strengthen social emotional and behavior skills and abilities 3. Develop a stronger foundation of strength, balance, endurance and character, confidence and coordination

Childhood obesity, heart disease, diabetes, behavior disorders, economic disadvantages and learning disabilities like Autism and ADHD are rapidly rising along with the costs of treating these disorders. These problems and costs are significantly higher where poverty is prevalent. With the majority of brain development, attitudes, habits and fundamental skills being developed in the first five years of life, it makes sense to strategically address and take measures to build a stronger foundation for learning, performing and communication skills in all children

HEARTS Education Foundation Is One of 250 Finalists for Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good Program HEARTS Education Foundation is proud to announce we’ve been selected as a finalist in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good Program. The new Toyota will help us provide high quality fitness, music and language training programs for over 200 disadvantaged preschool children each month in Summit and Jefferson Counties of CO.

Things I learned this week

What happens when a mom of an only child agrees to help a family friend and watch her 4 children?  Crazy and fun things occur!

Here are some things I have learned.

1. Little girls will eat anything. They will lick salt off the table and call it their "pills"
2. No matter how many times you tell them to stop picking apart a plant, they will continue to pick at it
   until the plant overturns and lands under the table with the dirt everywhere.
3. When you multiply the number of kids by the noise they make...it's LOUD!
4. When you have a storm that knocks out the power in the middle of the night..little girls scream! But
    then all the kids (including mine) do everything they can to make them feel safe. Love that!
5. You should always have flashlights for said storm in a place that little kids can't hide them, that way
    you don't have to search in the dark for an hour to find them:)
6. When teens hang out, they can always find uses for things. Birthday candles become s'mores makers.

7. Teens love action movies. Over 2 days we covered 5 Marvel movies. This being after little girls        

    asleep.

8. I learned more about video games from the teen boys than I ever wanted to know!

9. I am still not a morning person.  Early mornings just reinforced that!

10. Teens still like to win at card games.

11.  Kids of all ages have endless energy! 

I love the great memories made with friends. Minor mishaps just make things more entertaining!

Who's Under the Bed by Ayelet Nathaniel

                                                                 

                                                                    

      I think all children at some point have the same fear of what could be under the bed. A fear of being left alone in the dark.  For a lot of children, there is the fear of monsters under the bed.  In this book we find a great story about a small monster at bed. He is sharing with his mom about feeling afraid. He is scared that there might be a child under the bed. 

      He continues to want his mom to stay and feels sure she will keep him safe. As mom tries to convince him that a child is probably nice, he starts to feel secure. He finally realizes that a child might be just like him. He finally allows mom to leave the room knowing that if a child is like him, he'll be ok.

This is a cute book, and would be great to share with any child who is going through the fear of the dark, or of monsters. The illustrations are great. They are bold, bright colors and help to bring the story to life.

All about toddlers website!

Ultra Quirky Tot Website

     This is a great website for all things Toddler. They have everything from clothing, toys, gear, furniture and more. What I first noticed when I checked out the website http://ultraquirkytot.com is the inviting front page. It has great color which brings your attention to all the details of the site. It is very well organized allowing readers to easily find what they are looking for.  There are some great ideas and styles throughout the site. Everything is geared toward what the toddler age would enjoy. 

     I found some of my favorite things on the website to be the bookcases and rocking chairs. Here are great examples of the wonderfully made and decorated furniture available. 

     This is my favorite bookcase. It's called the Magical Garden and runs for $139.99. I love how the flowers and butterflies are large enough and make up the entire sides. What cute shelving for a toddlers many books, stuffed friends, and other special things. 

Other favorite items were the rocking chairs. Perfect size for toddlers. What a great addition to the room. Imagine the special memories of reading in these wonderfully designed chairs. For those boys that love fire trucks this is sure to please!
