The Return of Cassandra Todd by Darrel Nelson

Summary:

What happens when you are re-introduced to someone who indirectly was part of the
group that made high school miserable?
Here we find Turner. He was bullied in high school by the popular kids. He has
managed to move on and find a life he enjoys.
When Cassandra moves into the motel Turner works at, the past begins to return.
Although Turner tries to hide who he is, when Cassandra finds out, she has to see
him for who he is now. Cassandra is in danger from an abusive husband and Turner
makes the decision to do what he can to protect her and her son.
When her husband shows up, Turner quickly realizes who it is. Turner must learn to forgive and
find the strength to finally let the past completely go so he can work on them surviving.

Review:

Just by looking at the summary on the back cover, I could tell it would be a good read.
Overall it looked like a book full of excitement and love.
This book is very well written. It is descriptive in a way where it's easy to picture
whats going on. I felt a part of the story just by picturing what was going on.
The overall storyline has adventure, drama, suspense and love. What else could you want?
Everything in this book pulled together nicely. You follow them through some rough
situations and learn how when you realize you can't do it on your own, you can give it
to God.
The characters are relatable, realistic and honest. This book kept me up at night because I
just couldn't put it down! That to me is the perfect sign of a good book!
I highly recommend this wonderful book and look forward to reading more of Darrel Nelson's books.

Romance of Grace by Jim McNeely

I was really looking forward to reading this book! I was interested to see what he would say, and how he would address this topic.  We learn from this book that grace can not be commanded or forced. We have to choose for ourselves to accept the grace given us. He starts out with relating the topic to both parables from the Bible, and to current movies and such. I feel this was a great way to introduce us to his thought process. It was great also for someone who might be new to the concept of Grace and might need help understanding.

We find that real grace happens when we stop focusing on the power of the forbidden, and our true desire is for God.  God loves us no matter what, and more than we can imagine. We see throughout this book that it isn't our love, but Christ's love. Jim McNeely does a great job explaining each topic carefully and in a way that anyone can understand. He explains through examples about law and the difference between being moral and good. We have an innate desire to sacrifice and he does a wonderful job relating this to grace.

The book is written well and is clear and easy to understand. He includes Bible Verses throughout each chapter to lead you to the truth found in the Bible. At the end of each chapter, the reader is provided with discussion questions meant to draw you closer in, and get you to think about what you have read.
I love that he speaks truth, and allows us, as the reader, the chance to discover this truth for ourselves.

Whether  you are a Christian or not, there is a lot of great information and direction for leading you closer in a relationship with Christ. It will strengthen your relationship and remind you of what grace really is.

We have a giveaway for starbucks card here :The Romance of Grace by Jim McNeely Description and Giveaway!

Here is a great way to spend quality time with God. Learn to fall in love with him and learn how he sees us! Amazing book, Life-Changing!

Book title: The Romance of Grace.
IMG_6779aBook Description: What if God sees us the way a man sees a woman he is infatuated with, and His main question is not how to make us moral but rather how to get us to fall in love with Him? In The Romance of Grace, Jim McNeely explores Bible passages that tell us what God really wants for us and what His love means. This is the love of a God who chose to give His life for ours, even carefully retaining His scars into the throne room of heaven and telling us in His very body, "I have gone to great lengths and great costs to say that I forsook all comforts for the love of you." Join Jim in his exploration of life in God's unconditional, redeeming, amazing grace.

Author Bio: Jim McNeely is a teaching pastor and elder at Dakota Creek Christian Center in Blaine, Washington, where he lives with his wife, Betty, and their four sons. Formerly president of New Century Data, with clients such as Lockheed Martin and American Airlines, he now works as a programmer and database administrator in the health care industry.

Top Endorsements: So often we turn our faith in Christ into a forcing mechanism, which doesn't work in any event; and if anything, produces disillusionment or hypocrisy. The Romance of Grace is a prophetic book. I believe that unless we heed its call, to put grace absolutely without condition and frontally as the be-all and end-all of the Good News, we will lose completely, and not just in “the eyes of the world” but in the failure of well-intentioned religious lives that tried to love and never knew how.
—Paul F. M. Zahl, author of Grace in Practice: A Theology of Everyday Life

It is time, as Robert Farrar Capon put it, to get drunk on grace. Two hundred-proof, defiant grace. That's what you get here in Jim's book. You won’t see a list of qualifications, and you'll get no "footnotes."

What you’ll encounter is grace unmeasured, vast and free. It will frighten you and free you at the same time. —Tullian Tchividjian, Pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and author of Jesus + Nothing = Everything

In The Romance of Grace we are confronted with a truth that we may have previously rejected. It seemed too easy to embrace. It lacked obligation on our part and contradicted accusations we have given credence to for the majority of our lives on earth. Yet herein lies the truth—
“Not that we loved God, but that God loved us.” This book will help to right the plumb line in your life. —David Collins, author of Out of the Box, founder of Canadian Food for the Hungry International

Noxicare Pain Relief Cream

An amazing product! Noxicare is a natural pain relief cream which works great on joint, muscle and nerve pain. There are 7 all natural ingredients which quickly help relieve pain.
This pain relief cream really works!

I have a lot of pain that occurs in my shoulder and my back. I have tried many creams to try and alleviate the pain with minimal results. With Noxicare I was curious to see if it would be any different. I was amazed at the results. Although it didn't completely take away all the pain, it did make a tremendous difference in my ability to rest comfortably all night.

I love how effective this cream is. It is non-greasy, which is wonderful, and allows me to rub it in and go on with my day. I don't worry about leaving a greasy feeling anywhere. It works very quickly and easily. It keeps me going with my busy day without having to stop!

With the different pains and inflammations it helps, this is a product everyone should have around the house at all times! I know for my family, we are hooked!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Joni and Ken : An Untold Love Story

I was excited when I saw that I could review this book. I read her original book "Joni" when I was a kid, and saw the movie when it was in theaters. I was amazed at how she could trust God throughout her recovery from the accident, and the realization of how life changing this accident was. She was completely real and it was encouraging to me and many others.

In Joni and Ken: An Untold Love Story, we get an authentic look at their courtship and 30 year marriage. We see throughout the book that life isn't all easy or even enjoyable. Living with a quadriplegic person is hard even when you are in a committed relationship with them. We live through their struggles and accomplishments alongside them as we follow not only the present life, but the past 30 years. We find the reasons that this marriage works regardless of circumstances they face daily.

Although the majority of the book is from Joni's perspective, we learn alot about Ken also. We learn how open he is about his personal struggles he faced when realizing life with Joni is much more difficult than he imagined. He found he did allow some "fame feelings" to intrude in his feelings with how life would be. It's easy to glaze over some of the more difficult issues in a relationship when you can focus on the positive aspects, and when those aspects are known world wide, it's harder to ignore.

We follow the couple as they serve Christ through their travels, and ministries. Ken begins to feel he has taken a backseat in the relationship as Joni's personal and professional life takes over their day to day life.

Through the years, the marriage begins to feel more like  parallel living instead of the closeness that should accompany a marriage. They begin to feel overburdened, and Ken especially begins to find his patience stretched to the limits.

When Joni is diagnosed with cancer, and Ken finds himself delving into a deeper relationship with Christ, we find a new devotion and commitment to the marriage. They find themselves feeling closer than ever to Christ and each other. They make the marriage a priority daily. The little things Ken found himself overwhelmed with, now become more about serving and love.

I loved this book. It was a great story of true love, and how you can overcome any struggle with Christ in your life. It was obviously more directed to their personal struggle of quadriplegia, but I found the book a great help in ways that could encourage any marriage. I highly recommend everyone read this book!

Mother's Day

I hope and pray everyone had a great Mother's Day today! We are far away from family, so our Mother's Day was pretty low key. My husband was going to be at work all day, so he and my son made a rump roast dinner for me the other night.

Today, my son and I went to church in the morning, and then came home and had lunch. Although he had great plans of reading and playing video games, I managed to convince him to play a game with me in between:)

We played a game called Settlers of Canaan. In this game you are building settlements and cities and have to make roads in between. There is a lot of strategy in the game which always makes him crazy because I have no strategy. lol!

We have always enjoyed playing board games. It's a great way to spend time together!  As he grows older ( he turns 16 next month), I really cherish the times I get to spend with him when we can just relax and laugh...or for him, to roll his eyes and shake his head when I once again make a move that is not as strategic as it should be or have another question!

I hope you had a great day and enjoyed your time with family!

Sparkly Me by Ayelet Nathaniel

Another great children's book! In this book, we find a little girl who loves sparkly and shiny things. Most little girls can relate to this I'm sure!

We follow this cute little girl as she puts on her sparkly which makes her feel fabulous!
She wants to feel fabulous all day long and takes her stuff with her throughout her day.
When she wants to keep them close, they become wrinkled, or worn out.

She soon realizes that what makes her fabulous is what is inside her heart.
She will always carry it with her!

This is a great story for any "girly girl" who loves the idea of wearing sparkly stuff.
Leaves you with a great message of what is truly important.

Fabulous Me by Ayelet Nathaniel

What a great book! We follow this child through her choices of what she loves to do and see.
Where does she like to go, and what does she like to do?

Ride along on her adventures, and come up with where you would choose to go.
I love how she finds the best memories and places are those where she is with her family.
The time spent with her family, slowing down and taking the time to enjoy it.

I love that feeling, and need that reminder sometimes!
I highly recommend this book. Illustrations along with story make for a wonderful book.

Who's Under the Bed by Ayelet Nathaniel

I think all children at some point have the same fear of what could be under the bed. A fear of being left alone in the dark.  For a lot of children, there is the fear of monsters under the bed.  In this book we find a great story about a small monster at bed. He is sharing with his mom about feeling afraid. He is scared that there might be a child under the bed.

He continues to want his mom to stay and feels sure she will keep him safe. As mom tries to convince him that a child is probably nice, he starts to feel secure. He finally realizes that a child might be just like him. He finally allows mom to leave the room knowing that if a child is like him, he'll be ok.

This is a cute book, and would be great to share with any child who is going through the fear of the dark, or of monsters. The illustrations are great. They are bold, bright colors and help to bring the story to life.

Jade and the Tooth Fairy

Jade and the Tooth Fairy

        By Jacinta Zechariah

Many kids ,when they start loosing teeth, often wonder what happens to the teeth when the Tooth Fairy takes their tooth. In Jade and the Tooth Fairy, we find a unique look at Jade and what she discovers.

When Jade puts her tooth under her pillow, she tries to stay awake to meet the Tooth Fairy.  Upon arrival, Jade convinces the Tooth Fairy to allow her to come see the Fairy Land. We go along on the trip to a land of magic and delight. They fly as the Fairy flaps her fairy wings to this magical land. Here she is able to see what her imagination has created. She pictures the land and finds all sorts of fun.

Jade learns what happens to the teeth after they arrive in Fairy Land. The idea in the book is a unique and creative one.

I think this is a cute and creative story written for younger children approaching the age of loosing teeth and works through the process of the Tooth Fairy in a fun way.

The illustrations are my favorite part of the book.  They did a wonderful job of capturing the storyline. The artwork was fun and well done. I feel this helped to pull the book together into the complete story.

This is a quick read, but one children can look at many times.

Grammarics

As a homeschool mom, I was thrilled to be able to help promote this product. Grammarics is a unique and wonderful program which helps teach young children grammar in a way that will help children be able to learn at a quicker pace, in my opinion.

This book has wonderful and easy to follow grammar rules but what I liked the best were the pictures that went along with the rules and descriptions. The pictures make the learning process so much easier, especially for visual learners.
Here is an example of one page of the book:
See how well it puts the picture together with what the sentence reads. I really wish this program had been around when my son was learning grammar. Not only does this book make it easy to understand, but it makes learning fun! Great for homeschool, but also a great help for kids who might need an extra look at a specific part of grammar that might be confusing.

A big irritant for many people is when the following is used incorrectly. Here is a great way to help kids (anyone really!) remember which way is correct:

The Fiddler by Beverly Lewis

Summary:

This is book 1 in a series called Home to Hickory Hollow, about life in Amish country.  In this book we are introduced toAmelia. She is an English girl who is searching for the life she wants. She has spent most of her life playing the fiddle in concerts around the world. She really wants, and needs, some rest. She feels she is missing out on something and wants peace.
In a rainstorm on her way home from a fiddle concert, outside her normal realm of music, she meets Michael. Michael is in the midst of his own search. He struggles with the decision of whether or not to join the Amish church. His family expects him to, but he feels a pull to the outside world even with his love of his family and the life at home.
As they talk, they find themselves able to talk in a way neither has been able to before. When Amelia returns with him to Hickory Hollow, we follow her as she learns to find peace and return to a heart relationship with God. Through many struggles, and many heartfelt talks, we see how these friends begin to rely on each other to help find the life God wants for them both.

Review:

I have always been interested in Amish stories. I think because of how simple they make life. I know I could not live the way they do, and some of their beliefs are not matched up with mine, but regardless, I find myself drawn to these books. I have read most of Beverly Lewis's books, and knew before I read this book I would like it. I was not disappointed. It was great! Her style of writing allows readers to become a part of the story and feel apart of the families in the book.
This book weaved a wonderful story of friendship, love and ultimately a relationship with God. I found myself captivated and didn't want to put the book down. It made me wonder how I could apply what was in the story to my own life.
The story flows in a way which keeps the reader interested and always looking forward. I highly recommend checking this book out. It will leave you wanting to know more. Yes, I am already reading book 2!

The Whisper Theory

The Whisper Theory

by Amber Swenson

Summary:

Whisper Theory is a book that is part story, and part bible study. We follow the lives of three friends and roommates Meghan, Carol and Jeff. We learn about their college life, thoughts of the future, their remembering of the past, and the present difficulties mixed in.

Meghan is a Christian who is having a hard time living her convictions. Her roommates are not Christians and instead of her being able to witness positively to them, they pull Meghan in their direction of living life. She finds it difficult to stand firm in her faith, and finds herself dipping her toes in temptation and in love with the wrong person.

She deals with many circumstances and sins which lead her away from God. How far will she go, and how much will she have to suffer before she finds her way back to God and the relationship with him that she craves? You will learn this and more through reading the book.

Review:

Initially, when I read the listing for this book to review, I found myself intrigued. I enjoy a good clean suspense book and that's what it looked like to me.  It was different than I expected, but still looked interesting.

What I enjoyed about this book was how it included bible study questions after each chapter. The questions related to the previous chapter and allowed some in depth looks at the subject matter covered in the chapter. I liked how it gave direct links to what the Bible says about the topic. The questions were thought-provoking, and allowed time in the word.

I felt like there were some parts of the story which were hard to follow. The story seemed to bounce around leaving sections confusing. I see it more as an informational story book rather than a work of fiction. There were many difficult subjects covered from sex, drinking, murder and more. In general it was handled well. To me I felt it focused somewhat too much on the actual sin details. I wish there had been more of seeing Meghan trying to live a Christian life instead of being so easily swayed to the world. I think more could have been done to show this.

For me, the last few chapters were the best where we find redemption. I think this would be good for college age kids, who might be encountering the subjects and could learn from them.

Overall, Whisper Theory is a worthwhile read. I felt by far the best part of the book was the bible study.

The Man in the Box by Andrew Toy (Book Tour)

This is one of the most creative books I've had the pleasure of reading lately. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it really opened my eyes to a different style of reading. Normally, I am drawn to a more "real-life" type of book. What I found though by reading this book is that it was an escape from the norm which was convenient because that's where the book takes us. An escape from our life into the unknown.
The story starts out as Robbie loses his job. We see the turmoil and stress this causes him, and his fears of how it will effect his family and their well being. He wants things to be an easy fix, and not worry about finding work, so he takes the advice from a co-worker. This advice isn't exactly legal, and when he's almost caught, he finds himself hiding out in a cardboard box. This is where his real story begins.
When he gets in the box, Robbie finds himself in a cave in a transformed world. People and creatures seem to know who he is. He is completely confused and afraid, but at the same time intrigued with this land. The people there see him as a king and their leader. He has control there.
When he wakes from his "dream", he is in the office and has no idea if what just happened is real.
He takes the box home with him and slowly begins making the box his place of comfort and escape. He finds himself preferring being in the box rather than being with his family. We learn how the land came to be from his creation of imaginary childhood friends. As scary as this other life is, it is also a security place he feels drawn to. When he finally makes the decision to get rid of the  box, that's when the dangers really begin. The "box" life starts to make it's way into his "real" life. Trouble starts to come as creatures use the box to enter home. When his family is threatened he also finds out co-workers of his have had the same experiences. They each are finding their own lands. Robbie realizes he must do whatever it takes to protect the family he has finally remembered to love.
I can't give away the end, so you will just have to read the book for yourself and see  what happens. I will say it is a great ending!
This book is full of great descriptions, adventures and interest. It is very well-written and kept my attention throughout. My son has already shown interest in reading it next! I highly recommend this book. Who hasn't wondered what it would be like to have a life so far from our normal life. In this book we are given that opportunity to experience that. A great escape and a great read!
